HOW TO THROW A CIRCUS PARTY!!\u00a0\u00a0 \"FullSizeRender<\/a>What an extravaganza… ROLL UP.. ROLL UP!<\/strong> mystery, intrigue, surprise, weird, bizarre, freaks, beauty!!<\/p>\n

When I was asked to style a Vintage Night Circus Party for a 15 year old at their private home my imagination took flight. I could visualize the whole extravaganza… fire breathers, aerial artists, knife jugglers, stilt walkers, snake\u00a0oil salesman, fortune tellers, half man half woman, contortionists… it was the Ultimate Circus!<\/strong> However, budget is always a limitation, \u00a0so with a limited budget the only option is to get creative… So we did! The\u00a0yard was a good size which enabled us to\u00a0create a few defined areas – a\u00a0food stall, side show alley, a performance space, a freak show tent, a candy bar and a fire pit.<\/strong>\u00a0 We purchased meters and meters of red and white striped canvas which we used\u00a0to\u00a0dress up\u00a0these areas. We grabbed some of those flaming bamboo torches from the\u00a0two dollar store\u00a0and\u00a0created a flaming alleyway to connect the spaces.\u00a0 For the fortune teller<\/strong> we set up an area under a huge outdoor umbrella draped in sheer purple fabric to\u00a0create a mystical vibe.. and then\u00a0hung big red lanterns and carnival lights around the trees… and IT LOOKED FAB!<\/strong>\"circus5\"<\/a>SIDE SHOW ALLEY:<\/strong> We had classic vintage circus games\u00a0that\u00a0guests participated in with the use of\u00a0their tickets that they recieved on arrival.<\/p>\n

Ring Toss<\/strong> – I found some cider bottles on a recent trip to Tasmania that had an old fashioned\u00a0circusy look… any excuse to down a dozen ciders eh lol ;). We made the rings out of plastic piping from the hardware store and they worked a\u00a0treat.<\/p>\n

Tin Cans <\/strong>– decorate the cans in circus paper, stripes or multi colours and stack them into a pyramid shape. Invite guests to try to knock them all down by throwing a ball with 3 turns.<\/p>\n

Balloon dart game<\/strong> – We used a pin board because it has lots of small holes\u00a0in it which made it easy to pull the balloons through. We inserted a number inside each balloon before tying\u00a0it off\u00a0and had the winning numbers displayed on a sign board. The guests threw three darts each to\u00a0burst the balloons\u00a0and won a prize if they got the winning numbers.<\/p>\n

Bob for Apples<\/strong> – we all know this one! fill a deep bucket with water and float a half a dozen apples, guests have to\u00a0pull an apple out of the bucket with their mouths.<\/p>\n

FREAK SHOW<\/strong>: we organised\u00a0a couple of\u00a0talented relatives to act as the freaks.. we hired a make up artist\u00a0to transform them into a half man half woman and a bearded\u00a0lady<\/strong>.\u00a0The guests paid their tickets at the door to\u00a0enter the freak show\u00a0and got to encounter the freaks face to face.<\/p>\n

\"circus6\"<\/a>PHOTO BOOTH<\/strong> is an excellent fun station.. we had all sorts of disguises on sticks that we bought off eBay: moustaches, glasses, noses, hats\u00a0etc. We also had an assortment\u00a0of clowny gear: wigs, noses, hats, props etc.\u00a0 The circus goers\u00a0had a lot of fun with this, dressing up for the camera and laughing at each other in costume.<\/p>\n

\"circus2\"<\/a>FOOD STALL:<\/strong> What’s a circus without the\u00a0carnival food!\u00a0We had popcorn in striped boxes, peanuts in shells, corn on the cobb, hot dogs, \u00a0macaroni and cheese,\u00a0strawberry skewers and\u00a0home made lemonade served in jars with striped straws.<\/p>\n

\"circus4\"<\/a>CANDY BAR:<\/strong> A fairy floss machine is a must! and so are cupcakes wearing moustaches, mini cakes with sugar\u00a0stars, licorice allsorts, marshmallow dumb bells, caramel popcorn\u00a0and ice cream sundaes. No one went home hungry!<\/p>\n

\"circus3\"<\/a>BIRTHDAY CAKE:<\/strong> The birthday cake was a\u00a04 tier vintage circus cake<\/strong>. The bottom tier was\u00a0a circus tent with elephant<\/strong> sugar figures<\/strong> and tent ropes, inside was dark to light cake (chocolate, caramel, vanilla) with caramel buttercream between the layers. The second tier was an inverted tapered cake with harlequin<\/strong> patterns<\/strong> made with strawberry layer cake and vanilla cream cheese buttercream. Top tiers\u00a0were white chocolate mud cake with whipped white chocolate ganache inside. The whole cake was hand painted to give it a vintage look and gold and silver sugar stars completed the design.<\/p>\n

\"circus7\"<\/a>ENTERTAINMENT:<\/strong> We had\u00a0spontaneous aerial performances throughout the night\u00a0which created an exciting atmosphere, mime artists mingling,\u00a0a\u00a0stilt walker\u00a0greeting guests on arrival and a mystical fortune teller reading the mirror ball. Very cool entertainment provided by www.artdemasque.com.au who also supplied a\u00a0juggling\u00a0station so\u00a0guests could try out their skills.<\/p>\n

The evening ended with happy carnies sitting around the\u00a0fire pit with\u00a0endless marshmallows to toast..<\/p>\n
